Together, we're creating a stronger Racine. Here's how:
We're investing in public safety.
Secured nearly $15 million in public safety funding to keep staffing current, add six officers to the police force, and purchase two much-needed medical first responder trucks for the Fire Department.
Over and above, we offered police and firefighters a 12% raise and benefits increase.
We recently announced $500,000 in violence prevention grants, with more to come.
We're lowering property tax rates.
We dropped property taxes 7% to the lowest rate for homeowners in over a decade (20% drop since 2017).
We're building community.
We funded high school credential achievement (117 residents), pre-apprenticeship training, and home ownership and repair grants.
We launched the Financial Empowerment Center, which has served hundreds of Racinians (309) and helped clear hundreds of thousands in debt.
We're improving housing.
We funded nearly a million dollars worth of housing repairs and improvements in Tax Incremental Districts 22 & 23. $966,846.44 in grants since October 2021.
We replaced 410 lead laterals in the last two years.
We're increasing economic development.
More economic development over the past five years, than the previous 20.
Added $300,000 to the levy through the $100 million Horlick Malted Milk site development and the Hotel Verdant. More to come.
$1,871,795 in grants to 391 small businesses since 2020 to help weather and then bounce back from the pandemic. Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy.
